Arthouse Sketchbook Project 2012: Time Traveller
Building on last year’s success with my first Arthouse Coop Sketchbook Project, I have entered the Time Traveller theme for the 2012 Sketchbook Project Tour. The tour started in Brooklyn Art Library, New York (the Arthouse Coop base) and ends at Canada Water library in London in October 2012.
To date my sketchbook has been viewed by readers in Vancouver and Oakland CA. For me this is a great way for ‘wordsmiths’ to join a community of artists and have our words read around the world. The project offers the freedom to explore a chosen theme and is a great stimulus for developing one’s creativity.
I selected the theme Time Traveller as an appropriate vehicle for a science fiction project, the idea for which I had been toying with for some time. The sketchbook begins the story of Bell, an intergalactic shuttle pilot who is on the point of retiring when he is thrown off course, sucked through a portal and forced to land on the planet Kopra. Readers are invited to continue the story by imagining what happens to him next and submitting chapters via e-mail to email@example.com
Interestingly, the national news this week featured a story about a mission to deliver people’s ashes into space. Perhaps this could provide an opportunity to develop a thread about Bell’s ship, The Pioneer, containing such items among its cargo?
The aim of the project is to compile a globally created science fiction story.
