In the Stillness
‘In the Stillness’ was inspired by seeing the river Tyne at the point of stillness between tides.
As in the photograph above everything was mirrored in the water which had transformed into a looking glass.
This poem comes at the point of stillness for the protagonist in the collection.
Held in suspense,
like a river between tides,
I scry the depths,
reflect a familiar face,
turned upside down
and back to front,
absorb the image,
before it fades
with the new flow.
It is also a companion poem to ‘Sentenced’ which was posted on16th November 2014.
The photograph featured in this post was taken by my daughter Emilie on a visit to Thorp Perrow Arboretum which was the inspiration for ‘Carrion Call’ posted in ‘Morning Walks’ on 30th November 2014.
Like the still moment between breathing out and in again.
