A Trio of Retreats

January 18, 2014

Those of you who have decided to commit more time and space to your writing this year might be interested in the following retreats.
On Saturday 1st February, the Lapidus group for North Yorkshire, the East Riding and the North East are holding a retreat day at The Friends’ Meeting House, Quaker Close, Scarborough, YO12 5QZ.
The focus of the day is to explore the nature of creative and expressive writing in Hospices and to consider how this provision enhances palliative care.
The day will be facilitated by Sue Spencer who will share her experiences of running poetry groups for patients, staff and volunteers in a number of Hospices.
Further information about the day is available from regional co-ordinator Kate Evans at kateevans@tinyonline.co.uk.
On Wednesday 12th March I will be running a creative retreat for writers and artists at The Morritt, Greta Bridge, Barnard Castle, DL12 9SE.
The aim of the day is to enable you to focus on the development of a personal creative project. The day is divided into three creative sessions interspersed with refreshment breaks.
You will have the opportunity to network with other like-minded people over lunch and to take up the offer of a complimentary mini-coaching session.
Further details and booking forms are available from myself (Judith Lesley Marshall) at julema@tiscali.co.uk
The third retreat which caught my eye in a recent bulletin from the Arts Council (perhaps because I lived there for a few months many years ago) is a week in a 17th century farmhouse in Bordeaux. This retreat runs from the 17th to the 23rd March for those of you who may wish to venture further afield in search of time and space to write.
Further details are available from www.writersmutual.com
There is also a comprehensive list of festivals, retreats and workshops in February’s Writing Magazine. While the ‘Relax & Write’ weekends in Leeds are nearer to home for me,the annual retreat on Iona and the year round holidays in Skyros, Greece are also going on my future wish list.
Ask yourself what you can/will do this year to devote more time and space to your writing, to share your creative work with others and to access support from an experienced coach/mentor?
