A Plethora of Poetry Events

There is a plethora of poetry events throughout Darlington and the surrounding Dales over the next few weeks. Visitors to the area interested in poetry can choose from the following:
Tuesday 21st May – First Steps in Poetry with Natalie Scott – Cafe Create, Parkgate, Darlington. 7-9p.m.
Wednesday 22nd May – Seven Writers, Seven Voices – Cafe Create, Parkgate, Darlington. 7-9p.m.
Friday 24th May – Evening of music, poetry and performance – Cafe Create, Parkgate, Darlington. 6-9p.m.
Tuesday 28th May – Vane Women Showcase of poetry and prose – Conservatory Bar, Darlington Civic Theatre, 7.30p.m.
Thursday 30th May – Open Mic for Authors – Voodoo Cafe/Cantina, 84 Skinnergate, Darlington, 7-9.30p.m.

Wednesday 29th May – Poetry Open Mic – The Burgoyne Hotel, Reeth, North Yorkshire. 11.00a.m.-1p.m.
Saturday 1st June – Poetry & Pints with Roger McGough – The Buck Hotel, Reeth, North Yorkshire, 7p.m. (Sold Out!)
Monday 3rd June – Poetry & Pints with open mic – The Georgian Theatre, Richmond, North Yorkshire, 7p.m.

Friday 7th June – Wine and Words with Neil Diment as Richard Watson, The Teesdale Bard – NeST gallery, 25 Newgate, Barnard Castle, DL12 8NG, 6.30-8p.m.
Saturday 8th June – Creative Writing walk following The Richard Watson Poetry Trail – Bowlees Visitor Centre 10a.m. to book see
Sunday 9th June – ‘Vowel Movements’ fun poetry workshop with Jenni Pascoe – NeST gallery, 25 Newgate, Barnard Castle, DL12 8NG, 4-6p.m.

The Friday and Saturday events are part of the Dalescape Walking Festival. The Sunday workshop is the third in a series of performance poetry sessions supported by Apples & Snakes North East. Further details and bookings for ‘Vowel Movements’ from or telephone: 01833 695172

And these are just the events I know about that are happening in the near future. It seems to me that poetry is alive and well in Darlington and the Dales. What is the poetry scene like in your area?
