Language packs and dictionaries

This week I would like to let you know about an Exploring Language Workshop being held at NeST art gallery in Barnard Castle, DL12 8LN on Thursday 21st March at 6p.m.
This is the first workshop organised by Teesdale Words creative writing group which was set up earlier this year as part of the Winning Words project legacy. The aim of the group is:’to promote and provide a forum for creative writing among established and potential authors and poets associated with the local region.’
If you would like to explore how foreign languages can help to develop your work you can book a place by contacting the gallery on 01833 695172 or e-mail Places cost £5.
Poet Felicity Manning will start the evening with an insight into how writing in both English and French has informed and extended her work. Participants will then be invited to dust off their dictionaries and try a series of word games and creative exercises to create short pieces of work.
You will be encouraged to select words for their sound and shape even in a language that you do not know. The more exotic and eccentric the better!
The idea for the evening came from a previous event which showcased the work of Teesdale poets past and present and subsequent research into the Bowes family connection with French poetry.
The workshop is suitable for writers of all ages and abilities. Knowledge of a foreign language is not essential but you are asked to bring writing equipment and a dictionary.
