Sketchbook Project at Canada Water Library

October 8, 2012

Sketchbook Project 2012 The Sketchbook Project 2012 comes to Canada Water Library this weekend. The project is a travelling library of artists’ books from around the world. For 2012 I entered a science-fiction story in the Time Traveler category and am grateful to readers who have checked it out so far in Oakland, Vancouver, Toronto and Atlanta. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Your interest has spurred me into entering the Sketchbook Project 2013. This time I have completed a poetry chapbook to complement my collection ‘From the Land of My Ancestors’ due out from Mudfog Press next year.

Fellow writers interested in signing up for the 2013 project can find out more at www.thesketchbookproject.com The registration deadline is 31st October 2012.

For those of you who would like to view the books in the 2012 exhibition, Canada Water library, 21 Surrey Quays Road, London SE16 7AR is open Monday to Friday 9a.m. to 8p.m., Saturday 9a.m. to 5p.m. and Sunday 12noon to 4p.m. Take the tube to Canada Water, Surrey Quays or bus numbers: 1,47,188,199,225,381,C10 P12. You can’t miss the library. It’s the huge, beige concrete building that peers through the glass ceiling at the top of the escalator as you exit the tube station. It was so imposing that I forgot to take a photograph while I was there!

The exhibition moves to Melbourne, Australia in two weeks’ time before the books are shipped back to Brooklyn Art Library in New York, their permanent base.

Participating in what started as an ‘art’ project has given me the confidence to contribute to the WYPW – Pass the Book Project. This project invites artists/printmakers/writers and creative thinkers to collaborate in creating a handmade book. Artists have one week to add up to four pages to the book before posting it to the next person on the list. You can follow the project on Facebook at  http://www.facebook.com/WYPWPasstheBook.
