National Poetry Day

October 3, 2012

A Shepherd's Score To celebrate National Poetry Day tomorrow I have republished A Shepherd’s Score.

The collection is a series of twenty humourous poems on a sheep theme, including:

The Test Sheep

Spray, wax, polish,

dye, gel, serum,

conditioner and shampoo.

I’ve tried it all.

For hair that’s

dull, fine, greasy,

dry, limp, frizzy,

coarse, weak, brittle,

static and flyaway.

You name it, I’ve tested it.

For waves, knots, curls,

tired, lifeless, damaged,

distressed and split ends.

My fleece is like Joseph’s coat,

a patch for every product,

tried and tested,

so that other ewes

may win the show.

Their skins may be

whiter than ice,

soft, smooth and shiny,

but I … I am unique.

This poem was inspired by reading a newspaper article about the trials and tribulations of the sheep who are chosen to test beauty products before they are used on the prospective stars of the sheep shows.
