Writing in the Digital Age

November 23, 2011

Writing in the digital age is the theme of my article published in N.A.W.E.’s magazine Writing in Education, issue number 55.  This issue for Autumn 2011 features several articles on the theme including; working as a virtual writer, new ways to write and communicate, creating wordbanks to free up writer’s block, using digital readers as mentoring tools, compiling virtual archives and creating blogs and/or websites to publicise one’s work to a global audience.  My article falls into the latter category.  To read the article see the non-fiction pages of this blog or log onto www.nawe.co.uk for the online version of the magazine.

If you are thinking of harnassing digi-tools to make your work available to new, global followers 24/7, you might wish to consider Room to Write’s residential weekend Beyond the Page.  Further details are available on their website at http://www.roomtowrite.co.uk/beyond-the-page .  For young writers, New Writing North are looking for submissions for their quarterly magazine Cuckoo.  The deadline for the next issue is Wednesday 21st December 2011So, if you produce poetry, prose, short stories, film reviews, photos, podcasts or videos, look up the previous issue at www.cuckooquarterly.com.

My own digital journey took a new turn at NeST this week.  I have been learning how to upload and update information on the art gallery’s website in preparation for their online shop.  The shop went live today at http://www.barnardcastlenest.org.uk  Now I wish that there were more hours in a day as it takes time to both establish and maintain virtual spaces once one has created them.  Perhaps I should complete the task that I set my Life Writing students this morning i.e. to identify a set period of time for writing between this week and next.  My set period will be for blog-building.
